He was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on September 5, 1926 to Harvey E. and Adeline H. (nee Voskuil) Teumer. In 1944, upon graduation from North High School, where he was Vice President of the senior class, he enlisted in the V5 Navy Air Corps program and was in Officer Candidate School when WWII ended. He then attended University of Wisconsin in Madison receiving an Electrical Engineering degree. It was there he met and later married Kathryn A. Chilson of Beloit, Wisconsin. They were blessed with four sons.
Ken and Katie lived briefly in Beloit and then in Rockford, Illinois for 17 years before moving to Fort Collins in 1968. Ken worked for Fairbanks Morse in electrical engineering for two years and then spent 9 years at Sundstrand Aviation in Rockford working on mechanical and electric speed controls used in aircraft electrical systems.
Next he worked for Woodward Governor in Rockford and Fort Collins for 24 years in engineering and sales-marketing management. Finally, Ken worked for 16 years until age 75 with Fritz Heinzmann GmbH (Germany) marketing electronic controls for industrial diesel and natural gas engines in the USA after forming his own company Heinzmann USA, Inc.
Ken was very active in engineering societies writing and presenting technical papers to ASME, AIEE, SAE, ad ISME (Japan). He was Chairman of the Gas Turbine Division of ASME. Also, he was an ASME representative to CIMAC, and international engine engineering society based in Paris. He served as a vice president. He obtained a USA patent and Canadian patent related to engine speed controls while at Sundstrand.
In community activities, Ken served as President of the Marsh school District in a suburb of Rockford, Illinois. In Fort Collins, he was Past President of the Rotary Club of Fort Collins and served on the local board of Bank One for 21 years, Boards of local Red Cross, Community Foundation, and Fort Collins, Country Club. Since 1968, he was active in various functions at Trinity Lutheran Church. In recent years, he volunteered at Medical Center of the Rockies.
He is preceded in death by his wife Katie of 42 years, his son Steven Teumer, and his brothers Harvey and Roger Teumer. He is survived by his children, Dr. James (Vivian) Teumer, Phyllis Teumer, David Teumer, all of Fort Collins, and John (Sue) Teumer of Loveland; grandchildren Christopher (Amy), Sean, Karissa and Amelia (Michael); great-grandchildren Norah Teumer, Emma Teumer, Wiley Ochs, Edison Foster, and Eloise Foster; sister Marjorie (Dudley) Ramaker of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, Mary Lou (Roger) Teumer of Fairport, New York; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Trust Fund in care of Allnutt Funeral Service Drake Road Chapel.
