

Leo Vernon Gormally, 86, of Fort Collins, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012 in Loveland. Leo was born on June 10, 1925 to Thomas and Francilla (Kerwin) Gormally in Willis, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. Leo served in the U.S. Navy during World War II stationed in Adak and Kodiak Alaska. He married Mary Victoria Flammang on June 25, 1950 in Emerson, Nebraska. He later married Martha Hook. Leo had been a resident of Fort Collins since 1960. He worked for a newspaper in Sioux City after college and was a self employed entrepreneur for most of his life, most recently owning Securities Finance in Fort Collins. He was a member of the Fort Collins Elks Club. Leo was an avid sports fan, enjoyed horseracing and being a grandpa. He owned thoroughbred horses for a number of years. He loved touring Ireland by bicycle and did so on several occasions. Leo was well known for his annual St. Patrick’s Day Parties at the Elks Club. He is survived by his former wife Mary V. Gormally of Arvada; son Thomas Gormally (Darlene) of Southbridge, Massachusetts; daughters; Ann Groth (Roy) of Greenwood, Florida, Fran Tuenge (Rodger) of Haines, Alaska, Mary Merritt (Steve) of Littleton, Donna Seward (John) of Golden, Lisa Kelley (Mike) of Littleton, Kathy Welsh of Denver and Mary Vee Leissler of Reno, Nevada; sister Margaret Kunzie of Fort Collins; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and special friend and business associate Cathy Henderson. He was preceded in death by Martha Gormally, son Garry Daly, parents, 2 sisters Shirley and Jeanne and brother Dale. A celebration of his life (with Corned Beef and Cabbage and “wearin of the green”) will be held on Tuesday, February 7th from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Mulligans Pub and Restaurant at 2439 S. College in Fort Collins. A private graveside inurnment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Friends are invited to join the family at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church daily 12:12pm Mass on Wednesday, February 8th. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice in care of Resthaven Funeral Home.
