Lucille was born in eastern Colorado on February 3, 1925 to Albert and Clara Kniese. She graduated from Akron High School and also from Colorado State A&M (University) with a degree in vocational education. Lucille was well known for being an excellent cook and baker and her passion for teaching. She had a great sense of humor, caring personality and a love of learning throughout her life. With these varied interests she made friends of all ages, maintained her independence, love of games and sports and even her driver’s license until her passing.
Lucille married her second husband and love of her life, Earl N. Payton in 1958. They were together until his passing in 1979.
She was preceded in death by her three siblings: sister, Elvera Knight and brothers Marvin and Alan Kniese.
Lucille is survived by her two children Judy (Charles) Kimzey of Kiowa, Colorado and Kent Payton of Fort Collins, Colorado; her four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives including cousins, nieces and nephews.
Lucille did not wish to have a memorial service but wanted friends and loved ones to have happy thoughts and good food when they think of her. She also did not have a designated charity; but you are welcome to donate to your charity of choice if you wish.
