His family and friends mourn the passing of a beloved storyteller, bluff artist extraordinaire, consummate joker, outdoorsman, master beekeeper, and Western history buff.
Lynn was born at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO, on October 11, 1942, the only child of James Merlyn Elliott and Mary Lucille Bosworth Elliott. He graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1960, continuing a family tradition of Lambkin pride. After two years of college at Colorado State University, Lynn decided he would rather work and make money than continue with college. On April 11, 1964, Lynn married his high school sweetheart, Lois “Jean” Langston. To that union, three children were born: Timothy James, Tammy Jeanne, and Todd Lynn. Lynn and Jean had celebrated 40 years of marriage at the time of her passing on February 5, 2004, just one day after her granddaughter Sunny Lynn was born.
Lynn started work at Woodward Governor in October of 1964. Having held various positions over the years, Lynn retired as a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Operator in March 2009. He was a member of the Woodward 25 Year Club and enjoyed the monthly breakfasts held at the Charco Broiler where they were known for testing the patience of the waitresses. He made lifelong friends from his Woodward days and loved sharing stories of their past antics. Lynn also loved his monthly social gatherings at The Breakfast Club with the notorious group of Lambkin guys. He looked forward to these gatherings and treasured the friendships he made.
As an avid patriot, Lynn proudly served his country in the Colorado Army National Guard from March 1964-June 1987, retiring as a Full-Bird Colonel. He loved the Army and always said he would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Lynn was a master beekeeper. The Elliott family has kept bees for over one hundred years, a tradition started in Timnath by his great uncle Abram Elliott. Keeping bees continues to be a passion for several members of Lynn’s family. We are spoiled on our honey! Shout out to saving the bees! Most of you will remember Lynn as a lifelong gun enthusiast. He was an expert marksman who earned many awards and trophies over the years for various shooting competitions. He encouraged friends and family to learn to shoot and to respect firearms at all times. His extensive knowledge of firearms continues to be valued by many friends and family.
In September 2006, fate stepped in and introduced Lynn to love for the second time when he married Ellen Jones. They would have celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary on September 4th. Their early years together were spent on road trips discovering historical places that Lynn had read about, including one notable trip to Wray, CO to observe “the mating dance of the male prairie chicken.” (You gotta be there to appreciate it!) Lynn introduced Ellen to the life of a cowboy as they helped their dear friends Bill & Edith every spring with calving duties at the Flying S Ranch in Virginia Dale. With Lynn’s encouragement, Ellen also learned the fascinating art of beekeeping. Lynn loved taking his family to Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, an annual tradition since he was a young boy but was unable to attend the last few years.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Jean and her brother “Corky” Langston. He is survived by his wife Ellen and by his children, Tim (Sherri) Elliott, Tammy (Jeff) Fisher, and Todd (Tami) Elliott; as well as his grandchildren Hannah Feeney (and her fiancé David), Madi and Sunny Fisher, Kyle Elliott (and fiancée Libby), Paige (John) Lewis; and stepchildren Allison (Matthew) Maicher and April Jones. He also leaves behind many dear cousins.
Lynn will be laid to rest in a private family Graveside Service at Grandview Cemetery. An Open House Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 2:00pm-5:00pm at Resthaven Funeral Home, 8426 S Hwy. 287, Fort Collins, CO. Military Honors will be rendered for Lynn in appreciation for his service to his country.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice of Northern Colorado. Sincere thanks to the staff at Poudre Valley Hospital, Centre Ave Health & Rehab, and Pathways Hospice for your tender loving care during Lynn’s final months. You are true Earth Angels.
