Nicholas Gardner Carey was born August 15th, 1934, to his parents Fred and Esther Carey, in South Whitley, Indiana. He grew up in a household along with three other brothers, Larry Carey, Jerry Carey and David Carey.
He excelled in high school sports, especially in basketball, leading the way often as Team Captain. After high school he worked in masonry for his fathers company and later joined the military, US Army. But before leaving to serve with the Army, he met the love of his life, Jessie Marie Cosby, at Yellow Creek Camp Meeting.
After serving in the Army in Nuremberg Germany hospital, he returned home and married Jessie Marie Cosby on a cold, stormy winter day, December 8th, 1956. They lived on an acreage in a small house in Leesburg, Indiana where they welcomed three children: Randy, Kim and Kelly.
Due to their travels and great love of Colorado, they moved their family to Fort Collins, Colorado in the summer of 1970. Nick continued his masonry work and Jessie taught as a elementary school teacher in the Poudre School District.
After their retirement, time spent with family and friends brought great joy, along with travel to the mountains and to southwest Florida.
They were blessed with eight grandchildren: Nikki Beachy, Brandi Jo McKibben, Jacob Carey, Nathan Carey, Nicholas Doherty, Jessica Doherty, Alexander Doherty, and Amy Haass.
They were doubly blessed with eight great grandchildren: Andrew Beachy, Issac Beachy, Caleb Beachy, Leah Carey, Taryn Carey, Meredith Carey, Gemma Carey and Quentin Carey.
Nick was a godly man of faith and a devoted and loving husband and father. He remains in our hearts and we miss him every day, but we know that he now rejoices in heaven with his loved ones who have gone before.
Nick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jessie Carey, and his daughter Kelly Carey. He is preceded in death by a son, Randolph Joseph Carey, a daughter, Kimberly Ann Carey-Haass, his parents and brothers.
