
Paul Domnic Montalbano, 82, of Loveland left us to join His Savior on Saturday, March 22, 2008. Paul lost his long time struggle with diabetes and heart failure.Paul was born to Louis and Fannie Montalbano on November 4, 1925 in Calumet City, IL. Paul's father passed away when Paul was only three. Paul lived with his Aunt Mary and Uncle Joe on the family farm in Indiana for several years, before rejoining his mother and stepfather in Harrison, NJ.Like many young Americans, Paul joined the military in 1942, enlisting in the Navy. Paul served with the Pacific Fleet. His main assignment was aboard the USS Balduck, a destroyer escort. Paul was honorably discharged in 1946. While working as a baker in New Jersey, Paul met his future wife, Angelina Grace DiProspero. Paul and Angie were accomplished dancers, jitterbugging their way through the New Jersey dance club scene. Paul and Angie were married in Westfield, New Jersey, on June 12, 1948. Shortly thereafter, Paul began construction of the family home in Scotch Plains New Jersey, where they lived until relocating to Loveland in October 2006. Paul worked for 25 years as a carpenter for the New York City Housing Authority until his retirement in 1987.Paul and Angie raised two children, Paul Jr. and Michele. Paul was a pillar of the local community, helping family and friends built homes and performing a variety of construction projects for others on his own time. He and Angie were long-term parishioners of Saint Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, and were always active in church functions.Paul was a proud military veteran and donated much of his time and efforts to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10122. He served many terms as Post Commander, County Commander, and District Commander.Paul and Angie relocated to Loveland in 2006 in order to spend more time with their daughter and her family. They miss their home, family and friends in New Jersey but have greatly enjoyed beautiful Colorado. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Angelina, of Loveland; son Paul, Jr. of Port Charlotte, FL; daughter Michele Lucas and husband Timothy of Loveland; grandson Corey Paul Lucas of Johnstown, CO; granddaughter Colleen Renee Lucas of Carlsbad, CA; brother Joseph Pearns of North Carolina; sisters Sondra Gilmartin and Mary Conn of Florida; and cousin Josephine Masi of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Josephine.Paul's family wishes to thank the dedicated teams at Good Samaritan Village of Loveland, Columbine Family Practice, Loveland Dialysis Center, and McKee Medical Center for working hard to make his last few years as comfortable as possible. We will miss Paul's gentle spirit and smile, and our lives are richer for having been blessed with his presence.Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Fort Collins. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loveland.Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, C/O Resthaven Memory Gardens, 8426 S.
