A native of Colorado, Ralph was born in Vona, Colorado to John and Laura (Lockard) Tryon. His family was living in a two-room sod house outside of Stratton, Colorado. His Grandfather fought in the Civil War. He was in the Merchant Marines and then the Army from 1944 to 1947.
He fell in love with Carolyn Stoner and on one of his leaves, they married on September 14, 1946. The family treasures the letters that he sent to her during their time apart.
Ralph and Carolyn moved to Fort Collins in 1950. They owned Paramont Laundry and Cleaner on Mountain Avenue in Fort Collins for 32 years. They sold their business in 1994 and retired. Their Laundry was in the current Armory Building. If you drive east on Mountain, the ghost sign of their business is still visible.
Dad was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years. He delivered Meals on Wheels in Fort Collins and for Volunteers of America to Wellington.
The family loves to ride trains. For Dad and Mom's 50th anniversary, their sons rented a private caboose ride on the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad. For their 70th anniversary, they enjoyed a ride on the Georgetown Loop.
One of Dad's favorite hobbies was always playing cards. Many hours have been spent playing Cribbage, Bridge and Hearts. He had to give up cards and jigsaw puzzles when he lost most of his eyesight to Macular Degeneration.
Dad was a long-time baseball fan. One of his stories was the time he was late going back to work because he got caught up in the perfect game being pitched by Don Larsen in the 1956 World Series. He adopted the Colorado Rockies as his team once they began playing in the early 90s.
Dad and Mom moved to New Mercer Commons Assisted Living in September 2017. The staff and the other residents became important parts of their lives. The couple celebrated their 75th Anniversary on 9/14/21. Unfortunately, we lost Mom on 3/7/22. The love and compassion shown to Dad after his loss made his grief easier to bear.
Dad moved to Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab on 3/27/23.
Ralph will be put to rest comforted by Carolyn's favorite sweater.
Dad was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn and daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Larry Narodowg along with his three sisters. He is survived by his son Larry and his wife Linda, and son Loren and his wife Linda. He is also survived by a large family including grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
There will be no service. The family requests no gifts or flowers. Please consider a donation to Friends of the Colorado Talking Books Library. After Dad lost his vision, listening to audiobooks gave him many hours of entertainment. Visit www.allnuttftcollins.com to add condolences.
