Raymond Arthur (Butch) Miklos, born May 8, 1939, went to rest in Christ’s loving arms on January 25, 2018. A memorial Service is scheduled for February 16, 4:00 p.m., at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Ft. Collins, CO.
Ray was born to Arthur and Ruth (Hensel) Miklos on a farm in Obetz, Ohio. He was the first in his family to graduate from college, roofing houses to pay the cost, before receiving a Mechanical Engineering degree from the Ohio State University in 1963. Though his initial desire was to be an accountant, America’s space program inspired him to become an engineer. As was common for his generation, Ray worked 45 years for the same company, Cooper Cameron, primarily in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, with stops in Grove City, Pennsylvania; Denver, Colorado; and Houston, Texas. He and Sandi first retired to Fort Worth, Texas to be near grandkids before returning to the mountains of Colorado to again be near grandkids and the mountains he loved to see and explore.
Ray's pride in his alma mater was life-long and evident. A love of the west found him an avid reader of western novels and he surrounded himself with artwork and items of western and American Indian design. His quiet sense of adventure led him to a love of fishing, outdoor walks, and mountain drives. Ray was a sharp Euchre player whose bold bids usually won, but occasionally garnered laughter when he gracefully lost with a good-natured chuckle. Later in life some of the best family times came when all were gathered in Ft. Collins for games and visits.
Ray is survived by: loving wife Sondra Lynne (Sandi Rhoades), married 57 years; sister Judy Goble and her husband Charles (Chuck); brother Robert (Fritz) and his wife Athena; son Troy, his wife Darci, and their children Heather and Brent of Aledo, TX; son Todd, his wife Kathy, and their children Kira and Halley of Fort Collins, CO; and daughter Traci and her husband Chris of Hanover, PA. He is preceded in death by sister JoAnn Wears, and sister Pauline Miklos.
Ray was a quiet and loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His dedication to Sandi through better, worse, sickness, and health was well-known, and an example for all. His perseverance in a fading body centered on being a faithful and dedicated husband, and daily crossword puzzles. Ray had a history of service in the church as treasurer, choir member, grass cutter, and workday laborer. He led by example. God’s Spirit shined through him.
