Steve Harmon was a very kind man with a deep voice and a big laugh. His comedic timing and sharp wit were just a couple of his pronounced personality traits. He was a loving husband and father, doting grandfather, a dear friend to many, and an avid golfer and fan of all sports. Having strong roots at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico, he dedicated much of his time to organizing and celebrating with his beloved Sigma Nu fraternity brothers; they seemed to be his home away from home.
Steve was born on March 11th, 1945 in Salina, Kansas to Leon Harmon and Katisue (Fowler) Harmon. He was raised along with his younger siblings, Gail (Harmon) Patton and Kent Harmon. Steve grew up in Kansas and Wyoming and then followed his family to New Mexico. He was a proud Veteran of the war in Vietnam, serving in the Army for a short time, returning to New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico University where he met his wife of over 50 years, Niki, and completed a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Steve was a banker for his career, which spanned many years.
Steve passed away peacefully on March 23rd, 2025, surrounded by his family. Being together during his final days and hours of life was a wonderful gift.
Steve’s life was a story of perseverance, acceptance, gratitude, and laughter. Most of all, it was a demonstration of his kindness. He will be missed by his loving wife, who took such good care of him in his final years, showing a strength and compassion that are truly unmatched. His children will always celebrate him in their lives and their children’s lives, whistling tunes, sharing his great words of wisdom and loads of jokes (when appropriate!) … He would want to be remembered by those who loved him with a toast of Crown Royal and a departing shout of ‘Party On!’
Steve is survived by his wife, Niki (Royal) Harmon; his children, Brittany Joffrion (Jacque), Kimberly Harmon, and Andrew Harmon (Mercy) and grandchildren, Julia and Jessica Joffrion, Rocco, Milo, Leo and Drew Harmon.
A casual service will be held on the afternoon of Sunday April 13th in Fort Collins, Colorado. If you would like to attend, please email Kimberly at [email protected].
