She was born in Pittstown, NY on July 20, 1931 on the family farm to Richard and Mabel Weeden. After graduating from Green Mountain College in the Arts, she ventured to New York City to pursue her dream by singing in nightclubs and performing in summer stock theatre. Her love of music and playing piano carried throughout her life.
She enlisted in the Air Force and served as a recruiter and photographer. In the Army/Air Force recruiting office, she met her husband John and together had 4 children. In 1971, the family moved with Kodak from Rochester, NY to Fort Collins, CO. Although later divorced, they remained lifelong friends.
Mom was our Lucille Ball, Julia Child, Coco Chanel, Martha Stewart, Florence Nightingale, Mother Theresa, and Lady Gaga all rolled into one “simply mah-velous” woman. But of all of her talents, her greatest love was being a Mother and Grandmother.
She truly lit up a room with her presence. Mom had a quick wit and will be remembered for her twinkling eyes, sparkling smile and her infectious laugh. She lived with a song in her heart and every moment with her was a joy. She had a natural ability to spread happiness to all.
She is survived by her daughters, Valerie (Bob) Schlageter of Windsor CO, Susan (Brian) Berry of
Wilmington NC, Janice (Steve) Christopher of Loveland CO, daughter-in -law Claire Girolmo
of San Diego CA, her grandchildren, Chelsea, Kaitlyn, Jessie, Danny, Dylan, Nicole, John and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by John Girolmo, father of her children.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dan.
We would like to thank Dr. David Abbey and his staff for the decades of care provided to our mother.
In remembrance, please spread a random act of kindness.
The family will hold a private celebration at a later date.
