Sept. 27, 1932 - May 28, 2024
On May 28, 2024, the brilliant, beautiful, dynamic Adrianne Geiger Dumond, left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is nearly impossible to summarize, in a few short paragraphs, the life of this remarkable, accomplished woman, but the following is that effort.
Adrianne Elizabeth Hawk was born in Fostoria, Ohio on September 27, 1932. Her mother, Elizabeth Ash Hawk, was a teacher at the time who later went on to earn her Ph.D. in Speech Pathology and to become one of the nation’s most respected leaders in the field of Speech and Hearing therapy. Her father, William McClure Hawk, was the school principal and a gentleman farmer. Both parents were dedicated to their daughter, Adrianne, and her younger brother, Ash McClure Hawk, leading them to leave the family farm in Fostoria and move to Toledo, Ohio for better educational and cultural opportunities. It was there that Adrianne’s lifelong passion for music was nurtured. She began studying the violin at the age of six and went on as a young adult to become the Concert Master for the Toledo Symphony and sat First Chair for the Orange County Symphony as an adult.
While still in high school, Adrianne met and began to date William “Bill” John Geiger. Bill headed off to study on an ROTC scholarship at Vanderbilt University while Adrianne pursued her degree at The Ohio State University. While still in college, they married, and Bill transferred to Ohio State. After both graduated from Ohio State, they began their military life together. Bill became a highly respected and decorated Marine pilot who was at one point, selected to train in the second astronaut group. Adrianne immersed herself in motherhood and the life of a Marine aviator’s spouse.
As her children approached adulthood, Adrianne acted upon a yearning to further pursue her education and learn how to help people better themselves. She achieved a Ph.D. in 1977 from the University of Southern California and went on to help non-profits and large corporations alike strengthen their workforce and improve productivity with her skills in organizational development. At the time of her death, she was still volunteering for Executive Coaches of Orange County.
Indeed, we are known by our fruits and no truer can this be evidenced for Adrianne than in the four exceptional children she bore and raised with Bill. All four became lovers of Jesus, and all four have been wildly successful in their chosen professions. All four were blessed with happy marriages and beautiful children of their own. Adrianne was “Grandma Ann” to 11 grandchildren and 14 (and counting) great grandchildren! Adrianne most certainly lives on in Gwynn Geiger Hegyi (Bruce) and their children Ashley Howard (Erik), Colin Mannes (Amanda), and Tara Montgomery (Andrew); Christianne Geiger Gobrecht (late Bob) and their children Robert Eric Gobrecht (Catherine Cheney), and Madeline Moviel (Greg); William Gregory Geiger (Jackie), and their children Valerie Hoag (Kyle), and Grant Geiger; John Ash Geiger (Jenna) and their children Penelope Croissant (Grant), Chelsea Bergeron (Chris), Adam Geiger (Tarisa), and Alexa McPhillips (Sean).
Adrianne’s was a life filled with adventure—she traveled the nation and the world—as well as glorious highs, and times of great sadness—the loss of two dear husbands and a cherished son-in-law. She was privileged to experience many crowning achievements and even, a story book ending. At the mid-life point of their lives, Bill and Adrianne went their separate ways. Both were blessed with good second marriages to wonderful people. Adrianne married David Dumond in 1991 and enjoyed many happy years with him. In a twist of fate, both Adrianne and Bill lost their spouses to cancer within six months of each other. Surely, they were destined to be together and soon after, Bill and Adrianne became a couple again.
Very happily, Adrianne and Bill shared their twilight years together. They loved their Morningside community and took every opportunity to enjoy their family and continue to travel the world. It was a glorious time for them until Bill’s death in 2019. Now, Adrianne has joined him and while many will miss her greatly, her family rests in the knowledge that we will all be together again someday.
Services for Adrianne will be held on Thursday, August 8th at 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church (838 N. Euclid, Fullerton, CA) led by Pastor Jeff Bridgeman. Adrianne will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery.
