Born February 1938 in Dayton, Ohio and raised in Miamisburg, to parents Arthur and Norma Porter, Mike spent his teen years oversees living in Paris and London while his father was an executive at General Motors. After graduating from high school at Radcliffe College in London, Mike returned to the United States earning a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Southern California. Mike then became an officer in the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego. One fateful night, Mike attended a dance at the University of San Diego where he ended up meeting the love of his life, Ginny. What followed was over 50 years of love and marriage. Mike and Ginny raised their family in Fullerton, CA. They raised two daughters Julie and Susan and nephew David Thompson. A close knit family was most important to Mike as was being a devote Catholic.
Mike was a superior athlete and avid sports fan. He excelled in all sports especially rugby and golf. As scratch golfer, you could always find Mike near a golf course. Mike was plugged in. He loved coaching and watching his daughters and grandchildren play sports and perform. He never missed one of their events. In his later years, “Papa” was a devoted grandpa to his grandchildren Caroline, Jackson and Avery.
Predeceased in death by his wife Ginny, Mike is survived by daughters Julie Borsari and Susan Fargo, nephew David Thompson, brothers in law George and Doug, sister-in-law Karen Thompson and son in law Charlie Fargo as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will dearly miss their “favorite Uncle.”
A vigil will be held on Thursday October 17th at 7:00pm at McAulay and Wallace in Fullerton. Services will be held on Friday October 18th at 10:00am at St Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Fullerton. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimers Association of Orange County.
