

Carlos del Campo, M.D., 64, of Fullerton, California, loving father of Ellie, 25, Alexander, 20, and brother of Dr. Manuel del Campo, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he loved on May 15, 2013. Born in Madrid, Spain on March 13, 1949, he was a resident of Fullerton for 20 years. Carlos was the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at St. Jude Medical Center and was well known for pioneering innovative techniques in this surgical specialty. He dedicated his entire career to giving the gift of life to others. Many are alive today because of Carlos, and many families have been healed. Above all, his philosophy was to treat the person, not only the disease. He was an avid cyclist, participating in a multitude of fundraising events, most notably Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. His humanistic approach to patient care and love of his field of work endeared him to the hearts of many. An exemplary physician, he has healed bodies and souls. He spent countless hours with his patients often at their bedside throughout the night providing extraordinary care in the most difficult times. He was a true apostle of medicine. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the exceptional staff at St. Jude Medical Center who persevered tirelessly during his hospitalization. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10am at St. Juliana Falconieri Catholic Church, 1316 N. Acacia Avenue, Fullerton, CA 92831. In addition, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at the St. Jude Medical Center Chapel, 101 E. Valencia Mesa Drive, Fullerton, CA 92835 on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 3pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
