Eugene “Geno” Floyd Kaneshiro was born in Osaka, Japan, on March 27, 1951, to Ralph and Hiroko Kaneshiro. He spent his first 18 years living overseas on a military base where his father worked for the U.S. Air Force. After graduating from Nile C. Kinnick High School in Yokohama, Japan (Yo-Hi) in 1969, he attended Brigham Young University, earning a BA in Economics in 1976. He later obtained an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Geno worked for Raytheon as a program planner for 38 years.
Geno is a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a full-time mission in the Japan Central Mission and later served as a temple missionary with his wife, Liz, in the Sapporo, Japan Temple. He also spent many years serving as a temple worker in the Newport Beach Temple. Throughout his life, Geno held various leadership positions in the Church, including Elder’s Quorum President, High Councilor, and Bishop, among many others.
In addition to his Church service, Geno was actively involved in his community. He was elected to various board positions with the Amerige Heights Community Association over the last 15 years. He also volunteered with City of Hope and St. Jude, where he provided encouragement, support, and empathy to others navigating their cancer journeys.
Geno is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Kaneshiro (2002) and Hiroko Kaneshiro (2016), and his brother, Melvyn (1948).
His greatest joys are found in the gospel of Jesus Christ, his family, children, and grandchildren. Geno is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Liz” (née Wheeler). Together, they have three children: Melinda (Adam Neumann), Melanie (Ben Staller), and Justin (Naomi, née Sauble).
He is also survived by his aunt, Marilyn Salomon; his sister, Lynn Hubbard, her husband, Lyneer, and their son, Matthew. Geno is a devoted and caring nephew who lovingly took responsibility for the care of his 91-year-old auntie in recent years.
He leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Sebastian, Dallin, Gwen, Hyrum, Jake, and Zack.
