Koenig, Harold M., passed peacefully on Christmas Day. He was born January 29, 1924 in Evansville, Indiana, where he was raised. After working as a riveter in a war plant for two years, he attended Indiana University. He graduated with a degree in Accounting and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He soon married his college sweetheart, Mary "Rustie" Gazzolo, and they lived happily ever after for 63 years until her passing two years ago. They were blessed with two daughters, Linda and Martha, and were devoted, involved parents. Reliable and organized, Hal utilized his mathematical mind as a financial analyst for US Steel Supply. He began his career in Chicago and, in 1975, gladly transferred to California, where he savored the sunny weather. After precisely 35 years, he joyfully retired, thereby able to spend more time on the golf course or at the helm of his sailboat. Hal and Mary enjoyed traveling, especially cruising, and explored untold places near and far. Hawaii, with its glorious sunsets, was a favorite destination. They also attended multiple Dixieland Jazz Festivals, tapping their toes to oldies and twirling on the dance floor. Hal loved music, and could often be found at the keyboard, providing musical sunshine for various groups and gatherings, encouraging lively sing-alongs. Probus of Orange County, an organization for active retired or semi-retired professional and business people, brought Hal invaluable relationships and activities. A charter member, he served as President for three terms. His fellow retirees found him to be a fierce yet friendly competitor, whether on the greens or at the bridge table. Faithful members of First Presbyterian Church of Fullerton, Hal and Mary each served as Elders, he on the Finance and Facilities committee. Hal is survived by two daughters, Linda Koenig and Marty (Farhad) Motia, and his dear sister, Marilyn Burrell. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Koenig, and his youngest sister, Juanita Perryman. His four beloved grandchildren are Trisha (Erik) Paredes, Ryan Hernandez, Michael (Morgan) Motia and Matthew Motia, and his two great-grandchildren are Gabriella and Benjamin Paredes. He also leaves cherished nieces and nephews and a host of friends. A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Fullerton on Tuesday, January 13th, at 2:00 pm. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church or to the charity of your choice.
