JoAnn is survived by her husband, Steve Bogan; son Patrick Bogan (Andrea); daughter Kelly Bogan-Sugar (Joey); and five grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Salazar and Betty Rothener-Beech; her siblings Teri Lee and Robert Salazar Jr.; and her eldest son, Chad Bogan.
Raised in Montebello, JoAnn met Steve when they were both attending Montebello High School. She studied history at East Los Angeles College and Rio Hondo College. JoAnn and Steve married on October 13, 1970, and began their life together by traveling the United States for the PGA golf tour, in which Steve was competing. JoAnn embraced the role of homemaker and fully devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.
JoAnn was the kindest soul, the most incredible mother, and the ultimate grandmother. She was a dedicated caregiver both to her mother, Betty, and to her son Chad, who was born with disabilities. JoAnn also cared for her father, Robert Salazar, as he was battling cancer. Her devotion, empathy and compassion were evident not only for those for whom she cared, but to everyone she encountered. Her children, Patrick and Kelly, lived close by JoAnn and were a part of her daily life. Her five grandsons were the lights of her life; Jake, Ryan, Brady, Josh, and Zac could brought her immense joy and laughter. JoAnn enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events, even throughout her own cancer treatment. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren on special outings, or having them over for quality time together. JoAnn loved making memories with her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, warmth, and devotion to her family.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a celebration of JoAnn’s life at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 14, at Friends Church, 5211 Lakeview Ave., Yorba Linda 92886, with a reception immediately following at the residence of Patrick and Andrea Bogan.
