Jack was born on July 1, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey. He was the son of Audrey Amalia (Fischer) and John Joseph Keating, Sr. He grew up in Newark where he attended Barringer High School.
He first enrolled in Newark College of Engineering, then transferred to Rutgers University from which he graduated with a degree in chemistry. He worked as a chemist for Georgia Kaolin Company (now Thiele Kaolin) and then became a regional sales manager for Degussa AG Corporation (later Degussa-Huls AG and now Evonik). In his 40 year career with Degussa he became an expert in the use of aerosil products and traveled to every section of the United States.
He married Norma Anne Storrs in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey on July 28, 1968. She was the daughter of Annie Thomas (Brooks) and Ernest Nels Storrs. Following their honeymoon in Portugal, Jack and Norma resided in North Plainfield, New Jersey until 1975 when Degussa assigned him to the West Coast. They settled in Yorba Linda, California where they raised their daughter Anne Marie.
Jack liked to swim, read mysteries, and was a life-long snow skier. He particularly enjoyed skiing in Park City, Utah and Whistler Mountain, British Columbia, Canada. Although he traveled for work, he really loved taking vacations to destinations all over the world, such as Ireland, Denmark, China, Australia, Germany, Canada and, of course, the United States. He was a life-long learner attending numerous Elder Hostel programs and OLLI at California State University in Fullerton, California.
He is survived by his wife Norma, daughter Anne Marie (Morgan) Broadhead, sister Gloria Marie Price of Cary, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Robert Richard Keating, sister Linda Cecilia Gottfried and baby sister Mary.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
