Larry was born on May 12, 1950, in Huntington Park, California, to Raymond and Margaret Gagnon. He graduated from Gahr High School in Cerritos in 1968, and in June of 1969, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army. The following summer he was deployed to Vietnam, where he was stationed from August of 1970 until August of 1971. For his service in the conflict, Larry earned numerous medals, including the Army Commendation Medal. He was subsequently stationed at the U.S. Army Security Agency Field Station (USASAFS) in Augsburg, Germany, before discharging from the Army in June of 1972.
After his military service, Larry took a job working as a salesman for Stanline, a building materials wholesale company in Downey. He ultimately spent more than 35 years in the industry.
While working at Stanline, Larry met the love of his life, Linda Marie Nuccio. Larry and Linda were married in Lake Tahoe in 1977. Together with Linda’s daughter, Gina, the new family lived in La Mirada. In October of 1977, they welcomed the birth of a son, Larry, Jr. A little more than a year later, in November of 1978, their second son, Jason, was born. In 1980, Larry and Linda moved the family to a home in Brea, where they would raise their three children.
Larry coached both of his sons’ Little League teams for many years. He enjoyed coaching baseball so much that he continued to volunteer as a coach for West Yorba Linda Little League teams long after his boys stopped playing. In total, he coached for more than 25 years. Larry also served as an usher at Santa Clara de Asis Catholic Church and volunteered at the Orange County Catholic Worker homeless shelter.
Larry is predeceased by his brother Gary. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his sons Larry (wife Jamie) and Jason (wife Sylvia); his stepdaughter Gina (husband Justin); his grandchildren Patrick, Marcelena, Tanner, and Harrison; his sister Julie; and many other family members and friends.
