Marilyn Joan Michael Skinner of Brea, California passed away peacefully December 4, 2016 at the age of 88. Marilyn was born December 26, 1927 in South Bend, Indiana to Ralph Woodson and Prudence Groff Michael. She loved the woods and fields surrounding the log cabin home built by her father; she also cherished spending many wonderful days with all her grandparents who lived nearby. Growing up she was involved in 4-H, excelling in her sewing skills. She also played trumpet with the school band. After graduating from Lakeville High School, Marilyn attended Purdue University; her years there included some of the happiest memories in her life. Soon after receiving a Bachelor's of Science degree in Home Economics, she married David Skinner and the couple eventually welcomed three children, Michael, Janet and Linda. After making their home in the East and Midwest, the family settled in Fullerton, California in 1968. Marilyn has resided in Orange County since. Over many years, Marilyn graciously served in various roles within the Presbyterian Church, American Association of University Women (a member since 1957)) and drama reading groups. She was especially dedicated to her work with the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to honor our country’s forefathers, winning national awards for some of her work. Other interests included Little Theatre earlier in her life, and genealogical research in more recent years. She loved travel, especially to explore her German roots. Her life-long hobby was sewing. Marilyn was devoted to her family: Dr. Michael (Jennifer) Skinner of San Diego and children Haven Blake and Miles, Janet (William) Wells of Sierra Madre and children Grace and Julia, and Linda Brittsan of Twin Falls, Idaho and children Trevor and Holly. Great-grandchildren include Taylor, Trey, and Tabitha Brittsan and Vincent, Erin, Mary, Anne, and Leo Tomooka. Marilyn is survived by her sister Mary Michael Kaderabek and Mary’s husband Frank of Philadelphia, PA along with several nieces and nephews. In heaven, Marilyn will join precious family members including her sister Prudence Michael Ernest (David) and granddaughter Holly Joan Brittsan. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 21 at 1:00pm at Placentia Presbyterian Church, 849 North Bradford, Placentia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DAR Mojave Chapter, for the Good Citizen Award Program. (mojavecaliforniadar.org)
