Roland Robidoux of Fullerton passed away the evening of Jan. 21 at St. Judes Hospital after a sustained period of illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Theresa, and his two sons, Paul and Ray, and was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He was 85 years of age. Roland was born on December 30, 1925 in Woonsocket, R.I., and raised in Bellingham, MA along with two brothers, Jack & Leo, two sisters, Del and Muriel along with his parents, Paul and Bertha. He met Theresa at a local dance, and soon started a lifelong romance. He graduated from Bellingham High School and soon served briefly in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II, as part of the forces which traveled to the Philippines and Marshall Islands at the end of the war. In addition to being a volunteer fireman in his hometown, he tried his hand at driving trucks, but soon gravitated to the carpentry trade of his father and two brothers. He remained a carpenter the rest of his working career, including building homes in Massachusetts & California, as well as multiple projects at Cape Canaveral, FL. He was always known as a hard worker of integrity and could always be depended upon. He was a lifelong avid golfer, including active participation at Bellingham (MA) Country Club and Imperial (CA) Country Club. He and his friends shared many a competitive round, followed by equally competitive card games. Besides time with family, some of his happiest moments were with these lifelong friends. Roland was not afraid to try something new, evidenced by moving his young family in 1957 from the dreaded cold winter of Massachusetts to the warmth of Merritt Island, Florida and then again in 1966 to rapidly growing Southern California. His two sons benefitted by taking advantage of the California university system, becoming the second and third members of the family to obtain a degree. After retirement in 1987, Roland enjoyed having more time to golf and traveled extensively with Terry across the United States in their RV and with friends throughout Europe. Roland enjoyed life fully, deeply loved his wife and family, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friend and stranger alike. This Earth will be a lesser place for his departure, but we are glad that he now rests in peace. A memorial service will be held at 10 A.M.. January 25th at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Fullerton, CA., and internment shall be at a private ceremony in Riverside National Cemetery on February 1st. " Courtesy of Paul and Ray Robidoux
