
Sandra Lleana (Jasper) Sternberg died at her home on May 28 of congestive heart failure. A long-time resident of Fullerton, California, she was married to the late Dr. James C. Sternberg for 50 years, with whom she had four children and seven grandchildren. Born in Hannibal, Missouri in 1931, Sandra was the first of two children of Clarence and Hilda Jasper. In her youth she competed in poetry recitations, wrote plays and was once the town May Queen. She entered the University of Missouri hoping to pursue a career in fashion. In 1950, after her first year of college, she married and moved to Cambridge, MA to join her husband, who was pursuing doctoral studies at Harvard. She graduated from Simmons College with a B.A. in Home Economics. The couple moved to East Lansing, Michigan, where their first three children were born. In 1959 the family moved to Fullerton, California, where Jim took a position with Beckman Instruments, and their fourth child was born. Sandra loved art, fashion, theater, travel, animals, and laughter. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the St. Jude Hospital Guild and St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She is survived by her four adult children"Stephen Beckstrom-Sternberg, Lisa Mullin, Scott Sternberg and Annette Benavides; their spouses"Roxanne, Terry, Lynn and Benny; seven grandchildren"Heather, Marc, Chelsea, Jamie, Trevor, David and Ali; her brother, Jim Jasper, his wife Corice, nephew Jay and niece Amy.
