Angela “Angie” Surak age 83 of Gaithersburg, Maryland passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 22, 2024 as a result of complications from pneumonia at Brooke Grove Long Term Care Center in Sandy Spring, Maryland.
She is survived by her children Tony Jr, Edward, Jeffrey and Theresa; and five grandchildren Natalia, Danielle, Christian, Maxim and Maya. Angela was preceded to heaven by her husband Anatol “Tony”, married 60 years, mother Maria Polakawa, father Victor Mascicki, brother Alexander and sister Patricia.
Angela was born in Poland during WW II in very difficult times. Her parents were of Byelorussian and Polish origin, and her dad did forced labor for the Germans. After the War, Angela, her parents and her siblings Patricia and Alex were able to emigrate to the United States. They settled in South River, New Jersey.
Angela married Anatol in 1960 and moved to the Washington DC area, first to Capitol Hill, then Hillcrest Heights, Maryland where they raised their children. Angela was very active with the Holy Family parish school, woman’s club and the scouting program. Angela also enjoyed singing with the church choir.
In 1989, Angela and her husband moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland with their daughter. Angela continued to sing with the choir at Saint Martin of Tours church, and was an active member of the garden club.
Angela was a loving wife and caring mother. She enjoyed gardening, baking, attending church and tutoring students. Angela was a very skilled artist and loved to paint china plates and vases.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 201 S. Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Road,Germantown, MD 20876
