

Anita Bisaha Higgins, 71, of Rockville, Maryland, passed away surrounded by her husband and children on Friday, May 15, 2026. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Kevin Higgins, her beloved children, Chloe (Eric) Pardo, Brandon (Casey) Higgins, Ariel (Samantha) Higgins, Evan (Kate) Higgins, and her cherished grandchildren, Elijah, Jonah, Luka, Mila, Jordan, Aria, Miles, and Noah. Anita is further survived by her siblings, Andrew, Anthony, and Alicia, as well as her many friends and extended family members.
Anita was born on November 2, 1954 in Harrison Township, Pennsylvania to the late Andrew and Mary Bisaha. She was the first in her family to graduate from college, earning a BA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in French and a minor in German. Throughout her life, she worked as a translator for the CIA, a teacher in the Montgomery County Public School system, and an owner of a small business.
Anita was the backbone and matriarch of her family, never letting them forget the importance of holding each other close. She believed in and fought deeply for love and equality, both for others and for her own interracial marriage.
Anita was a devoted mother, wife, sister, friend, and community member, leading the PTA, volunteering at Asbury Methodist Village nursing home, and organizing countless school and family events. She was also an avid traveler, visiting dozens of countries and states, an enthusiastic gardener, and a lifelong reader.
Anita had a knack for creating closeness with anyone she came into contact with, fostering countless relationships with her endless supply of love, attention, and knowing humour. She will be remembered for her determined kindness, fierce loyalty, and easy laugh.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to DeVol Funeral Home, Gaithersburg. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 20301 Pleasant Ridge Dr, Gaithersburg, MD 20886, immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 12 P.M. on Tuesday at the same location.
