Anthony “Tony” La Porte, 78, of Germantown, MD, passed away the afternoon of Friday, April 11, 2025. He was born on November 15, 1946 and raised on Long Island, NY. He was the beloved son of the late Antonio and Arlene La Porte. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Dowling College in Oakdale, NY. He proudly served his country as a Specialist 5th Class in the United States Army and Vietnam War from March 12, 1968 – March 11, 1971.
Tony worked as a Division Director of Leak Detection in the power generation industry until his retirement. He loved his family more than anything – anyone who had the privilege of spending even a matter of minutes with him would walk away knowing the names, ages, and current statuses of all his children and grandkids. Band concerts, sports games, graduations – you name it, he would make sure he was present for it all. Nothing made him happier than his ability to provide his wife, children, and grandkids with experiences they’ll never forget, be it season tickets to Orioles or UMD games, a once in a lifetime trip to Disney World, or annual vacations on Fenwick Island.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Jean La Porte; his three daughters – Sandra Mantua and her husband Patrick Mantua of Damascus, MD; Heather Slifer and her husband Josh Slifer of Edgewater, MD; Andrea Camburn and her husband Christian Camburn of Havertown, PA; his son, Antonio La Porte of Coram, NY; his cousin, Marie Serra and her husband Joseph Serra of Inverness, FL; and his grandchildren – Nicholas Mantua and his wife Rileigh Mantua of Grand Forks, ND; Matthew Mantua of Damascus, MD; Bryan Slifer of Edgewater, MD; and Scarlett Camburn, of Havertown, PA.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, MD on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11:00 am. Luncheon to follow for friends and family at the La Porte family home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tony’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project (online here or by mail to P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516).
