

On Friday, May 24, 2024, passed peacefully with her family by her side after a brief illness. Beloved wife of the late Daniel H. Morrissey, loving mother of Daniel (Anna), Kerry Grace (Adam), and Michael, and eight adoring grandchildren, Evan, Lauren, Annie, Andrew, William, Christine, Patrick, and Alexander. Barbara was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, to the late William and Catherine McGrath. She was the oldest of four children, enjoying time with siblings Patricia (William), Jeremiah and Bing (d. 2013) and her nephews and nieces.
Following high school graduation from Sacred Heart in Fall River, Barbara attended Bryant College (Providence, RI) and then served as a manager and buyer for Filene’s in Boston, at which time she met Dan. After marrying in 1960 and joining Dan in Washington, D.C., Barbara worked with Tweeds ‘N Things for many years providing high-end personal fashion for women. She subsequently moved into real estate, finishing her career with H.A. Gill & Son. Barbara spent much of her free time volunteering in the community including tutoring, serving on the PTA and other community boards, and working with Father McKenna at So Others Might Eat. She was a long-term active parishioner of Holy Trinity in Georgetown. Barbara was a 55-year resident of Chevy Chase, MD, and moved to Asbury Methodist Village in 2017.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 520 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, MD, on Friday, May 31 from 10 to 11 a.m., presided by her brother Monsignor Jeremiah McGrath, with Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
