

Born on May 12, 1952, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Regis Joseph Walter and Elizabeth Jean Walter. She graduated from Saint Anselm High School in Swissvale, PA (Class of 1969), where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last May.
Barbara earned her bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University and her master’s degree and Ph.D. from Georgetown University. She was a longtime resident of Gaithersburg, Maryland where she lived for over 50 years and served as a lay reader at Saint Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church for nearly 40 years.
She was an avid reader of English and French literature, enjoyed political nonfiction, and loved playing classical piano. Above all, she was devoted to her family, including her two shelties.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Paul John Rebstock Jr.; her daughter, Rebecca Louise Rebstock; her brother, Regis Joseph Walter Jr.; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD, on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 201 S. Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.
