

On August 2, 2022, Betty Griffith of Washington, DC peacefully passed away under the love and care of her family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charlie Griffith with whom she shared 52 loving years of marriage. Betty was the loving mother of Charlie Griffith (Gayle), Joanie Todd (Rick), Margie Apgar (Carl) and; grandmother of Annie Apgar, Allison Todd, CJ Apgar (Carri), Michelle Todd, Jenny Todd, Jeanie Apgar, Charlie Griffith and Billy Griffith. She is also survived by her brother John DeVol. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Jean DeVol, and her brothers Bob DeVol, Raymond DeVol and Jim DeVol.
Betty was born on August 23, 1934 in Washington, DC. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Washington DC. On June 25, 1960, Betty married the love of her life Charlie, who was introduced to her by her father.
Betty was a devoted homemaker who lovingly raised her 3 children during their formative school years. However, outside the home, she also enjoyed a long history of volunteering at her children’s schools and her beloved parish of St. Ann. Before becoming a mother, her most important job, she worked in the registrar’s office at Georgetown University. After raising her children Betty worked at a local dental office until the age of 85 to keep herself busy.
Betty loved to bowl in her younger years and had many friends from her various bowling leagues. She and her husband Charlie also loved to play bridge and had a group of friends who played bridge once a month without fail for over 50 years.
She loved to sew, knit, needlepoint and crochet. She even needlepointed a seat that was part of a chair presented to Pope John Paul II as well as needlepointing the bridal kneeler used by all of her children when they got married. She also lovingly knitted Christmas stockings for all of her children, grandchildren and her granddaughter in law.
She loved to vacation with her family at Bethany Beach where many happy memories were made. The most important part of Betty’s life was her Faith, Family and Friends. To know Betty was to love her. She was one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends may call at St. Ann’s Church, 4001 Yuma Street NW, Washington DC 20016 at 9:00 am on Thursday, August 11, 2022 until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am.
Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church 4001 Yuma Street NW, Washington DC 20016.
