Douglas “Doug” Macpherson, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, Feb. 15, 2023. A long-time resident of Rockville, MD, Doug worked as master mechanic for a local Ford dealership for over 15 years. While he loved cars and, what he liked to call “go-fast” boats, with a passion, his family, friends (some whom he’d known since childhood) and foster dogs always came first. It was incredibly important to him that every person and dog he cared about felt loved and supported.
Despite having long-term health issues and a work-related injury that forced him to retire early, he was determined to make the most of every day. He was always fixing things around his house or helping someone else fix something. He enjoyed going on adventures with his daughter Colleen and son Andrew, whether just to check out local events or attractions, or head on a road trip down to Gulf Shores, AL. You could also often find him on spring and summer weekends in Lake Gaston, NC spending time with his beloved girlfriend of 17+ years, Eileen McDaniel.
In addition to his daughter, son and girlfriend, Doug is survived by his sister Sandee Belt and to many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces to mention, all of whom will greatly miss “Uncle Doug.”
A memorial service will be held at Montgomery United Methodist Church, 28325 Kemptown Rd. Damascus, MD 20872 on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
His family plans to lay Doug’s ashes to rest in Fairhope, AL alongside his parents Allan and Jean.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the name of Douglas MacPherson to https://www.petconnectrescue.org, the nonprofit he supported through fostering.
