

On the morning of January 21, 2016, Edith Johnson passed awaypeacefully. She was being visited and comforted by family and friendsat the Casey House Hospice in Rockville, MD at the time of herpassing. Edith was 87 years old.Edith Johnson was born in Washington, D.C. on December 22, 1928. Shewas the only child of John William Harper and Lillian Stolpe Harper.A long-time resident of Washington, D.C., Edith graduated fromMcKinley Tech High School and went on to receive her Masters inEnglish at George Washington University. Edith began her career as aResearch Librarian at the Department of Health, Education, andWelfare.Edith and her husband of 59 years, Robert Edward Johnson settled inSilver Spring, MD to raise a family. Edith was also an active memberof her community, participating in numerous organizations. She was aco-founder of the West Hillandale Women's Association; served on theboard of HELP of Silver Spring; and was a member of ChristCongregational Church where she served on the Board of Deacons. Edithwas an active member and Past Matron of the Order of The Eastern StarDistrict of Columbia, Naomi Chapter No. 3.Her most cherished role in life was that of a loving mother and doting ?Grammy.?
Edith was known for the way she made fast friends with everyone shemet. She had the ability to make people feel welcome with her genuinewarmth and compassion. She made a lasting impression on everyone shemet and her legacy of love and kindness will live on.Edith is survived by her husband, Robert Johnson; her children KarenPatterson (Michael), Bruce Johnson, and Stuart Johnson (Michele); hergrandchildren, Erin Richmond (Ian), Sean Patterson (Cory), RyanPatterson, Lynn Patterson, and Meyer Johnson; her great-grandchildren,Ryleigh Adams, Aiden Richmond, Jacob Patterson, Charleigh Patterson;and her niece Priscilla Johnson-Miles (Bill).
Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 on Sunday January 31, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM. Interment: Private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
