78. Eileen was a feisty, independent spirit. She sang beautifully & was known to break into songrandomly when the mood struck. She had an affinity for animals of all sizes. She loved the ridge &meadows of her family’s farm in Gaithersburg so much that she called it home for most of her life.Eileen was a devout Catholic who lived her life in faith. As a young woman, she followed a calling toshare God’s word. While on this path, with God at her side she discovered her true purpose. Her faithnever wavered; she was up for every challenge. She remained an active parishioner in her church & anadvocate for others throughout her lifetime.
She was fierce & fragile. She was strong she could be tough & tender. She was witty & wonderful.Sometimes she was all those things in one breath. She was a daughter, sister, friend, competitor, choirmember & companion.
Then Eileen became a wife, mother & grandmother. She raised her children in one of her favorite spots the ridge above the meadow at the back of her family’s farm. She surrounded us with cats, dogs, cows even goats. She cherished her role as “The Mother” (her words). She was a confidante & counselor to each of her children.
As a single parent she began a career in the U. S. Government. First, with the Census Bureau as aninterviewer & a few years later she took a truck driving position in a different branch. She became aproud, hardworking USPS employee. She was the only staff member at her post office to drive the 2-toncollections truck for over a decade. Six days a week this little lady ran her own show doing a job thatrequired heavy lifting, attention to detail & nerves of steel.
Eileen was a real-life mother trucker.
She will be lovingly missed by her 5 children, their spouses & her beautiful grandchildren, as well as 4sisters & 2 brothers, their spouses & too many cousins, nieces & nephews to count. She has beenwelcomed with open arms by those family members, loved ones & friends who preceded her into theafterlife. Eileen will sing with the angels & watch over those of us who have yet to follow.
She is home.
