

Gail Ann Gomila, age 80, died peacefully at her home in Maryland on May 13, 2024. She was born Gail Ann Gonsoulin on June 5, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Emma and George Gonsoulin, and was preceded in death by her beloved parents, brother Gil, and husband of 54 years, Lynn.
Gail is survived by her twin daughters (known as Mandy and Sandy) Amanda Lee Gomila Croushore (Ted) and Sandra Lyn Gomila French (Hunter, Jr.) and her adored grandchildren, Emma, Molly, and Ryan Croushore, Soren and Hunter French III. They called her Meemer. She is also survived by her cherished sisters-in-law Sr. Judith Gomila, MSC, and Sydney Gonsoulin. She treasured lifelong friendships with her cousins and adored her goddaughter, Holly Bertaut Dickman.
Gail was educated in New Orleans by the Marianites of the Holy Cross at St. Mary of the Angels and then at the Academy of the Holy Angels. She married her high school sweetheart, Xavier Lynn Gomila on December 16, 1967. Over the years, she flourished in various Administrative and Executive Assistant roles for several large companies such as Boeing, Sears, and Lockheed Martin, and spent eleven highly successful years with IBM. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Technology from the University of Maryland University College in 1989. She was vibrant, joyful, and active, and in her younger years “Boots” enjoyed volleyball and other sports, wrote for her high school newspaper, sang with the Glee Club, and was a cheerleader. As an adult, she was a well-respected leader and dynamic participant in several community groups including Toastmasters, Business and Professional Women (BPW), AARP, Gaithersburg Area Neighbors & Newcomers Club (GANC), Potomac Chase Womens Club (PCWC), and multiple local book clubs. Gail was known for her gracious hospitality, enviable sense of style, and ever the cheerleader, she was effusive in her affections and quick with encouraging words. She will be forever missed by her family and large circle of friends.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 21, 2024, at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans LA 70119, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m.in the J. Garic Schoen chapel with the Very Rev. Wayne C. Paysse V.F., officiating. The service will be live streamed. Interment will immediately follow at the family crypt at Hope Mausoleum.
A Memorial Service will be announced in Maryland in the near future.
