Glen Lawrence Sunderland

Mr. Glen Lawrence Sunderland, 76 of Germantown, Maryland passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at his residence. Glen was born on March 19, 1947 in Atkinson Mills, Pennsylvania to the late Robert and Florence (Allen) Sunderland.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances D. Sunderland, and their daughters, Rachael of Germantown MD and Michelle (Brink) of Rockville MD; also, sister Darlene (Snyder) of McAlisterville PA, and brothers Gary of Monticello KY, Dennis of McClure PA, Larry of Saltillo PA, and Barry of McVeytown PA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sunderland served in the United States Army from 1966 – 1971. Afterwards, he and Fran relocated to Maryland where he was employed as a technical representative at Xerox for 41 years before retiring in 2013.

Glen was a Past Master of Pentalpha Lodge #194 AF&AM, Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of MD Order of the Eastern Star, Past Patron of Pentalpha Chapter #38 OES, Past Associate Grand Guardian of Jobs Daughters International of DelMar, Past Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel #27 JDI, and a 45-year member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He was an avid lover of model rockets, planes, trains, and darkroom photography in his earlier years. He earned his pilot’s license at Gaithersburg Airpark to fly Cessnas in the 1980’s. In his later years, he enjoyed drones, digital photography, sudoku, computers and being an active member of Masonic organizations.

Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. where services will be held at 11 a.m. Masonic and Eastern Star services will begin at 10:45 a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Heart Committee of the Grand Chapter of MD, OES.
