I worked at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for 22 years and knew Harold there.  He was a good man, and a valuable resource at the NRC.  

Harold was an expert project manager, always glad to help other engineers, including me.

Harold often went out of his way to help others.  An example of that is that shortly after starting to work at the NRC in April 1991, I was sent for training to the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  At the time I barely knew Harold.  I was surprised when I got to the hotel to be told there was a FAX for me.  I thought maybe it was from my supervisor at the NRC but it was from Harold.  He faxed me information about the training that I had not previously been given.  He went out of his way to find out where I had been sent and where I was staying to send me that information.  That's the kind of person Harold was.

I invited Harold many times to have lunch with me, which he did.  I enjoyed his company.  He attended with others from the NRC a lunch given for me when I was 60 years-old.

Harold was I would say the ideal worker.  He worked very hard, putting in many extra hours, and as far as I know never complained.  His office was rather famous in that it had piles of reports as much as I believe six feet high.  There were so many reports in his office that there was only space for Harold himself to barely get to the chair at his desk in front of his computer.

People sometimes made fun of the appearance of Harold's office but amazingly, he knew what the subject of the hundreds reports there were.  Engineers who could not find reference reports they needed in the library went to Harold.  He just about always found the report, if it was in his field, and knew exactly where in the stacks of reports in his office it was!

My sincere condolences to Harold's wife, three children, and siblings.  He was a credit to humanity.  The world could use many more people like him.  May he rest in peace.  If there is a heaven, I'm sure he's there now.

I'm extremely grateful to have known Harold during our time together at the NRC.  He was always kind and helpful and was a true office historian who willingly shared his knowledge with others.

Harold was a pleasure to work with and always willing to share his time and great experience to help out.  A true gentleman. I am grateful to have been able to be in his group and he will be missed.

Harold was a true gentleman and a great coworker. He was both professional and unafraid to speak truth - great qualities in a safety regulator. He is missed.

I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to  work along side and learn from Harold for over 15 years. I've never met anyone as driven by curiosity as Harold. His ability to recall past events and details was unmatched.
