On April 1, 2020 the world lost a tremendous Husband, Father and Friend to many. Born 4/21/1931 in Washington D.C. to Avis Shurland and James B. Kline Sr. Jim married his wife Delores Adele Torrens at an early age and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Upon his return he joined the Post Office and spent nights pursuing a Master’s degrees in Commercial Science (Accountancy) from Benjamin Franklin University in Washington D.C. Jim then earned his CPA license and began work at the Naval Surface Warfare Supply Command at Carderock (MD) where he spent the next 22 years. He retired from the Federal Government with over 40 years of service.
Jim is survived by wife Delores of 68 years. They raised two sons, James B. III (Jill), Daniel F. (Kathy) and one daughter Kathleen Majane (Charlie). All reside in Maryland and have had the great opportunity to have their father be a part of their lives, their kids and grandkids lives as well.
Jim was the oldest of 4 siblings and is survived by brothers Gene Kline, Leo and Buddy Rossister and sister Pat Bass. Jim’s grandchildren are Lisa Yates, Kelly, Morgan and Campbell Kline and Alex, Sam and Jesse Majane. Great Grandchildren are Rylee and Bailey Copsey, Jorydan and Gage Willingham.
Jim was a devout Catholic and spent most of his adult life as a Member of Saint Mary’s Church in Rockville, MD. Jim was a Member of the Knights of Columbus where he served for decades. Jim’s love for sports provided opportunity to coach baseball for many years for St. Mary’s who competed in the RBBA and CYO leagues throughout the area.
Jim’s love of sports carried over into his senior years, where he competed in multiple Senior Olympics winning numerous gold medals in Bocce and Bowling. He loved to compete and did it up to the last couple months of his life. If he was not competing, he loved to watch sports especially his Baltimore Ravens and Orioles.
Jim was an extremely caring individual who thought of others first and always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Jim may not have known but he impacted everyone he had the pleasure of meeting. He just had a way of making you feel special and that he truly cared about what was going on in your life.
While Jim will be missed by so many, we are happy he has entered into the Kingdom of God. During the remaining moments of his life he did speak these words “I’m tired, I have had a great life and it’s time to go home”. There is no doubt Jim is asking God to pass the Old Bay and vinegar so he can enjoy his crabs and a beer waiting for football season to start.
Rest in Peace, you’ve earned your spot. We Love you forever.
