Born into a military family, Jim attended 13 different schools and graduated from Annandale High School in 1977, where he enjoyed setting records in shotput and discus. He continued his studies at George Mason University and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
In 1989, after living in Richmond for several years, Jim returned to the Washington, DC, area to run a new branch of The Kloke Group. In 1996, he left to start Transition Management Systems, Inc and later with his wife, Turn-Key Moving Solutions. With 41 years of experience moving businesses and people, Jim touched countless lives by making their moves easier and he was one of the first in the DC-area moving industry to encourage the use of plastic reusable containers for office moves. In his free time, he loved playing golf and watching sports, particularly his beloved Washington Nationals baseball team. He could often be found in his seats at Nationals Park cheering on the home team.
He is predeceased by his mother, Nola, and stepmother, Beth.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Denise, and their children: Danielle and James, and his son by his first marriage, Joshua (April); his grandchildren: Jordan and Wesley; his father, Jack (Cindy); his siblings: Patricia (Dan) Cummings, John (Pat), and Karen (Keith) Ballard and his stepsisters: Catherine Zych and Carolyn (Craig) Spurlock, and many more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
