

James L. Marketos passed away peacefully on May 13, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Utica, New York on March 24, 1954 to Leon and Elizabeth Marketos. After graduating from Princeton University in 1976 he attended NYU’s School of Law. Survivors include his wife Denise, son Alex, sister Barbara, brother Gerry, and nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him greatly.
For the past 24 years, Jim worked as a corporate litigator for Berliner Corcoran & Rowe in Washington, D.C., representing clients around the country in both trial and appellate courts.
For many years, he served as a board member and chairman of the American Hellenic Institute, a D.C.-based advocacy organization dedicated to applying the rule of law in U.S. relations with Greece, Cyprus, and Turkey.
He was also a proud member of AHEPA Chapter 31 and served as Membership Chairman from 2015 until the time of his death.
His interests included traveling, sailing, book collecting, and enjoying the company of good friends. Jim will be remembered as a true gentleman and great scholar of history.
His viewing will be held on May 24 at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral located at 36th Street & Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC.
