Jack Floyd of Montgomery Village, MD passed away peacefully on May 24. He was born in Baltimore, MD to Theodore and Irene Floyd; moved to and schooled in Hyattsville, McKinley Tech, and then attended University of Maryland on a football & ROTC scholarship, graduating in 1956 with a BS Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, he answered the call for active duty into the U.S. Air Force, travelling around the US primarily as part of several Air Force Engineering teams creating airports, water treatment facilities and housing, subsequently earning the rank of Captain. His love for the military and engineering made for a perfect combination for a successful career in Commercial Construction beginning with the Howard Shockey & Sons in the early 1960’s thru to retiring several times from Clark Construction between 2010-2020. His storied field career built many of the commercial projects we still love today, RFK Stadium & the HUD Building in D.C. along with portions of the underground Metro yellow and green Lines, Cirque de Soleil Pavilion at Disney Orlando and his personal favorite the renovations & additions to the University of Maryland Football stadium, all amongst too many others to list. His free time was spent “putzing” around the house, or a neighbor’s house, reading, exercising, and aerating local golf courses with his wedges.
He is survived by his beloved wife Janice Floyd, his sister Patricia Bardsley, three sons Steve, Mike and David along with 4 wonderful grandchildren.
In keeping with Jacks wishes, there will be no formal services, however, should you wish to honor his memory, donations be made to the Hospice of Montgomery County, MD and Atrium Victoria Home Gaithersburg, MD. They are truly angels on earth.
