

John Joseph “Jack” Mattson, Jr., age 75, passed away on November 8, 2023, after a valiant battle with stage four lung cancer. Born on August 25, 1948, to John Joseph Mattson Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth, Jack was also the brother to the late Michael Harry, forming a close-knit family foundation.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary Helen Mattson, and their three children: Christopher (Jameson) Mattson, Susan (Jesse) Terry, and Nicholas (Nathalie) Mattson. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Natalie Mattson, Nathan Terry, Peyton Mattson, Katelyn Terry, his loving niece, Theresa Mattson and many nieces and nephews.
Jack’s recent diagnosis with an extremely aggressive form of lung cancer came as a shock to all who knew him. Despite the suddenness and severity of his illness, he faced it with the same strength and determination that characterized his entire life.
Known for his intelligent wit and sense of humor, Jack brought joy and laughter to those around him. He was a man of passionate spirit, deeply devoted to his family. His love, guidance, and the stories he shared will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on November 17th at 11:00 am at DeVol Funeral Home. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to join in commemorating a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, in remembrance of his compassionate spirit and lifelong dedication to helping others.
Jack’s memory will be forever treasured by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love, humor, and kindness will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
