When I am in the lab, he would greet me with â€œWhatâ€™s the good news!â€ I would always make sure I had something to share with him. He was always interested in what I was doing because he said it was fascinating. I miss his optimism and candor. He was able to see the big picture and understood how each person contributed to the success of the entire group. John faced each challenge, both professional and private, with perseverance and a smile. His connection to us was evident as he visited us during all his health challenge periods throughout the years, and it has taught us the lesson that caring about people matters. He always took time to say a few words to the young people I have mentored over the years who have brought to visit Neocera. That left them with a good impression and helped them make critical career decisions. My heart goes out to Patti and his family as they deal with his absence in their lives and embrace the memories of him. May the lessons and love he taught be shared with their generations.

I am so grief stricken to hear of John's passing. A beautiful soul taken from us too soon. John was the only Mentor I ever had in my life and although our time working together was just a few short years, his guidance, support and lessons have served me well and truly enriched my life. John's love of life and strength of character is one I have always tried to emulate. He changed the course of my life for the better and I will always hold his memory in my heart. In our lives we find few friends who are worthy of our love. John was and is truly worthy. I will miss him deeply.

John- My friend, philosopher and guide I met John almost 20 years ago though I had heard about him earlier than that in terms of what he had accomplished at Fusion Systems in Rockville, MD. Just after our first meeting, I knew that he was the right person for Neocera and more or less talked him out of his retirement plans for which I owe Patty a profound apology! He was at Neocera and literally transformed the culture of the company with his wisdom, competence and the willingness to nourish all the employees. Personally, I learnt so much from him. His ability to sell the truth; look at things from a different perspective independent of how obvious the picture was quite amazing. He was the contrarian and thus prevented complacency on our part as he pushed us to be more critical. I learnt not to judge a situation of a person using prior assumptions as he had the immense ability to slip into the shoes of the other person. His empathy was both his asset and his weapon. I also loved his sense of humor and the number of stories and jokes we shared over the years which always bring a smile to my face. To say that him being not here will leave a hole in my life will be an understatement as I am going to feel this void for quite some time. R.I.P. John in a nice little place holding a heavenly beer and remembering some of our favorite stories and jokes!!

He was a great leader and a good man. May he be rest in peace. Prayers go out to his family and friends.

Thanks for being my mentor John, no one did more to teach me the business of technology. And and a huge thanks to you and your entire family for your hospitality; staying at your place when I was in town and driving to work together, I will never forget those great moments. You will be dearly missed.

I met John on several occasions. The most memorable was the first when it showed me who this person John was. I left our visit thinking how sincere, intelligent, kind and diplomatic John was. One who made you feel totally at ease, showing interest not in himself but others. May John now rest in peace. My condolences to the Matthews family.
