Joseph P. Mudano, Sr.

May 17, 1929 – November 3, 2018

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Joseph P. Mudano Sr. died peaceful at his home Saturday, November 3, 2018 after a long illness.  He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years Dorothy (Muzynski) and his son Jospeph P.  Mudano, Jr. daughter –in-law Ann Marie and son-in –law Pasquale Melchionda.  Joe is preceded by his daughter Darby Melchionda,  brother  Rosario Mudano  and sisters Nanatte Norton  and Virginia Lind.                  

Joe was a kind and generous soul that loved spending time with family and friend.  He was proud of his Italian heritage and like all true Italians loved a good meal shared with family, friends, stories, laughter and lemon Chello.  

He began college in Missouri at Central Methodist College then left when he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War.  After serving his time state side, he attended Adelphi University in New York earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  He moved the family form Long Island New York to Maryland in order to advance his engineering career with Fairchild Industries.  After some soul searching decided to leave his engineering career and become his own boss.  He started his own successful construction company providing his customers quality custom work.

He loved and cherished his five grandchildren Anita, Marina, Raffaella (from Italy) and Joseph III and James.  The girls remember lots of summer fun swimming in the pool and BBQs and their grandparents many trips to Italy.  The boys grew up down the street and Grandma and Grandpa were at every game, birthday party and school event.  Favorite memories include Sunday night diners when the entire family was gathered together, the summer frogs invaded the pool, cutting down the bamboo trees to make tepees and when Grandpa rode an elephant with the boys at the circus at age seventy-five.

Family and friends may extend their condolences on November 11, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at DeVol Funeral Home 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.

Funeral Mass will be held November 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9000 Warfield Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20882.  Burial immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.
