

Joseph Carson Werner was born & raised in Danville, Illinois to Carl John Werner and Julia Carson Werner. He attended University of Illinois (varsity swim team) & Milliken University (BA business). Joe served in the USMC (Second Lieutenant & Expert Marksman) during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1955. He then began a successful, lifelong career in magazine advertising sales. Joe worked with many top publications of the day including: The Saturday Evening Post, Holiday, New York, Outdoor Life Magazines, and finally retired as Sales Manager, Newsweek Magazine, Washington Bureau in 1995.
In 1955, Joe Werner and Louise Ripley married in Montclair, New Jersey where they raised a happy family of four children. They moved to Maryland in 1981. There, Joe and Louise became active in the Kenwood Country Club, Bethesda and made numerous close and lifelong friends. Following Louise's passing, Joe found love again and married Francine Collins of Bethesda Maryland.
Joe had very wide interests and was a strong community member. He was an avid fly fisherman, tennis player, outdoorsman, a talented woodworker and artisanal craftsman. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 19 Upper Montclair, New Jersey and founder and president of the DeCamp Bus Riders Association.
Joe is survived by His wife Francine Collins, brother John “Pete” Werner of Chico CA; five children: Juli and spouse Ainsworth, John and spouse Diane, Sarah and spouse Paul, Edward and spouse Claire
and stepdaughter Loretta Collins-Begg; six grandchildren: Katie, Steven, Claire, Leah, Carl, and Graeme, as well as extended family across the USA.
A celebration of life service will be held on Mar. 25 2022 at 1pm at the DeVol Funeral home in Washington DC. The service will be live streamed via webcast. Please click on the link below to view the service
