

Karl Bryce Deitz, age 75, died October 15, 2022 at his home in Germantown, MD. Born June 15, 1947 in Akron, OH he was the son of Joseph A. and Helen M. (Hoffman) Deitz. He leaves behind younger sisters Janice (Anthony) Zakelj, Eileen (Andrew) Kramer and Lorna Deitz. Karl was an uncle to Christopher, Steven and Lauren Zakelj and also Melissa and Sarah Kramer. Karl was preceded in death by his parents and nephew John Kramer.
A veteran of the Vietnam Conflict he specialized in military intelligence. Attaining the rank of Sergeant Major he completed 27 years of service to country both actively and as a reservist in the Army and National Guard. Karl was a member of the Rockville American Legion, post 86, and was part of their award winning color guard team.
A lifelong student Karl graduated from Field High School and Kent State University, OH. He learned Russian at the Army Language Institute in Monterrey, CA, took political science classes at Johns Hopkins, MD, and in retirement was working towards a degree in landscape architecture at Montgomery Community College, MD.
Karl was owner of Regal Contracting, a roofing company, was active in his HOA, and attended Unity Christ Church of Gaithersburg, MD.
Services and burial with full military honors were at the IOOF Cemetery in Berlin, PA.
Karl will be greatly missed by his extended family members and friends. Condolences and memories can be shared under the Tribute Wall/Share a memory.
