Lawrence (“Larry”) deLorimier, aged 92, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, was born September 28, 1931 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and died October 10, 2023, surrounded by his children and his wife, Rosemary (“Rosie”).
Larry entered the Air Force during the Korean War in January 1951. He attended language school & pilot training. He resigned in October 1958 as a Captain in the Air National Guard. He worked at IBM for 31 years, retiring at the age of 58 and never looking back. His work with IBM afforded him worldwide travel, including the Far East, Russia and Paris, where he and Rosie lived for two years.
Throughout his work and retirement years, Larry and Rosie loved to travel, especially to their beloved Schladming, Austria. Larry bragged about visiting all 50 states during his travels.
He was a graduate of Campion High School (class of 1948) in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and University of Minnesota. Of the multitude of homes he lived in as a youth growing up, he favored Prairie du Chien and always called that "home". In fact, it was here that he met the love of his life, Rosie, and they have never been apart, marrying in December 1952 after a whirlwind one-year romance. He was always so proud of their marriage and love, especially when they recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.
Larry was always an active participant in his community, giving his time freely to whatever endeavor he was involved in, most recently, St. John Neumann Catholic Church and Shady Grove Pregnancy Center. Retirement didn’t slow Larry down - he enjoyed golf, travel, and volunteering. After moving to Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Larry continued his active involvement in his community. He was active on the Resident’s Advisory Committee for the Wallace building; advocated tirelessly for improvements to the Bocci Ball Court as Chairman of the Bocci Committee; and was involved in the Senior Olympics as a competitor and Member of the Asbury Senior Olympics Governing Board. For several years he was active in gardening in one of the resident garden plots. Larry especially enjoyed spending time with his loving and growing family. He was a devoted caregiver to his wife, Rosie, and managed her care with grace and dignity.
Larry is survived by his wife, Rosie, and five kids, Mary Kunkel, Rob (Kathi) deLorimier, Yvonne (Scott) Spencer, Teri (Tom) Stief, and Michelle (“Nacho”, dec.) Cordova, his ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Larry’s honor at the Alzheimer’s Association or St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
