Leo Andrew Dilling, age 85, of Vero Beach, FL entered into eternal life on Friday, October 4, 2024. Born in Gary, Indiana, to the late Leo and Mary Dilling. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Janice Wright.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Dilling and children; sons, Leo (Laura) Dilling and David Dilling, and daughters, Allison (Tristan) Bliesner and Sarah (Stan) Fretwell and his precious grandchildren Eleana, Dillon, Ladstan, Charlotte, Drew, and Emmett. They enjoyed their time with their playful Pop Pop and Grandpa.
He followed in the footsteps of his father, graduating cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, making him a double domer. Ensign Dilling, United States Navy, taught nuclear power for submarines after graduating.
He met Diane on a train bound to Mont Tremblant, QC, Canada for a ski vacation. After six months, Leo proposed over the telephone and they married, lasting 56 years. Our family enjoyed many ski vacations over the years as a result.
Leo enjoyed professional success as the founder and owner of a home medical supply company. He served on the University of Notre Dame College of Engineering advisory board for ten years. He gave generously to his family, friends, and causes dear to his heart.
Leo introduced many family and friends to the uniqueness of the Chesapeake Bay through their home on Mill Creek in Lusby, MD. He enjoyed harvesting crabs and having friends and family visit for crab feasts. Leo and Diane divided their time between Maryland and Florida the last 15 years.
He was our fix-it man, ever the engineer, working up to the end on home improvement projects. He continued to make decisions to enjoy life with the future in mind. His was a life well lived.
