Marie Grant

Marie Jacqueline Yvonne Fraser Grant, also known as Marie Yvonne Grant, a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on January 8, 2026. She was known to many as simply Yvonne.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Yvonne was the eldest of three children born to Ivy Mae Williams Fraser and Arnold N. Fraser. A gifted student, she excelled at Alpha Academy before immigrating to the United States to build a new life.

She married her high school sweetheart, Alvin Joseph Grant in New York. Together, they settled in Maryland, where they raised their family. Yvonne pursued nursing, graduating first in her class from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia.

Yvonne was known for her compassion, strength, and unwavering presence. She devoted herself to her children, Andrea M. Grant, Rev. Arlene J.M. Grant, Esq., and Calvin A. Grant, MD, making countless sacrifices to ensure their wellbeing. She also lovingly cared for her mother, Ivy, in their home until her passing in 1995.

A dedicated nurse, Yvonne touched countless lives through her profession and her generosity. She loved music, dance, community gatherings, and bringing people together.

As a grandmother to Camille, Evan, Claudia, and Ariana, Yvonne found profound joy.

Yvonne is survived by her sister, Beverley “Prim” Hylton, and her husband, Clive; their children, Sandra, Jacqui, and Darren, and their families; and by her brother, Norman Fraser, his sons Keoni and Keoki Fraser, and their families. She is also survived by a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Redland Baptist Church, 6922 Muncaster Mill Rd., Derwood, MD 20855, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery located at 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20906
