Martha Jean Layn

Martha Jean Layn was born July 2, 1937 in Chippewa Falls, WI to Albert and Norma Meyer. She grew up with her two sisters, Lois and Jani, in Boyd, WI where her father owned and operated the local feed mill. Martha graduated from Stanley High School in 1955 and went to Luther Hospital School of Nursing in Eau Claire, WI completing her courses in 1958.

Martha married Samuel Warren Layn in 1959 and the newlyweds settled in the Boston area. Sam’s US Navy career sent them to the San Diego, Seattle and Virginia Beach areas until settling in the Washington DC area in 1970 for the rest of their lives. They had five children, one daughter and four sons.

In 1978, Martha returned to nursing for a fulfilling career over the next 20 years. After retirement, Martha spent her free time enjoying volunteer work, craft projects and baking. She also liked to travel and spend time at the Outer Banks in North Carolina with family and friends.

Martha had a great spirit and smile. She was loved by all and will be missed dearly by her family and those who knew her.
