Mary was the beloved wife of 47 years to Blair Fraser; loving mother of Stewart Fraser and Margaret (Fraser) Hunter; beloved grandmother of Catherine and Adalie Hunter
Mary was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on August 16, 1951, to Helen (Brode) and Thomas Carlos. Mary and her sister, Marne (Carlos) Boyce lived their early years in Saltsburg, PA, moving to Butler, PA, after the passing of their father. After graduation from Butler High School, she graduated with RN from The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA; followed by her BSN from the Pennsylvania State University, where she met Blair. After marriage, they proceeded to New York City where she was a Staff Nurse at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. After completing the MA in Nursing at New York University, the couple moved to Gaithersburg, MD. Mary continued her Nursing career at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD, specifically the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Before retirement as a Commissioned Officer (Captain) in the U.S. Public Health Service, she had served as a Nurse in the Genetic Epidemiology Branch, NCI, NIH, working with cancer-prone families.
Mary was mother of Stewart and Margaret, as she said, her greatest creations. Always a sports fan, Mary enjoyed country music, witty jokes, and canasta. Gardening became her favorite outside endeavor, particularly her rose garden. Another garden she enjoyed sharing with her mother, the herb garden, was always on her visit to the National Cathedral.
Mary loved her family, always looked for the best in others, and was there to serve.
