Mary Louise Stakem

Mary Louise Stakem was called home to the Lord on September 16, 2022. Mary was born to Joseph and Catherine Peters on July 17, 1930 in Keyser, WV, and raised with her brother Jack in Piedmont, WV. She married her husband Edward William Stakem in 1951, and the couple later settled in Gaithersburg, MD to raise their family.

Mary lived a simple but bountiful life, rooted in her faith and her large, loving family. She loved her work as the Secretary to the Pastor at St. Martin’s Church for 25 years. Mary was welcomed into heaven by her husband Eddie and her daughter, Joan Kirk (survived by David). She will be dearly missed by many, including her children Edward Stakem, Jr. (Jane), Catherine Norris (Pete), Martin Stakem, Joseph Stakem, and Ruth Lyon (Duke), as well as her niece Debra Carbone (Mike). She was the beloved “Maw Maw” to 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and six great-nieces and nephews.

Family will welcome visitors from 10:30 – 11:30AM on Thursday, September 29th at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Gaitherburg, MD, followed immediately by her service. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Aspen Hill, MD following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
