Born August 24, 1937 in Liverpool, England. Maureen was in her early 20’s when she left behind her family and everything she knew to come to the United States for a job with room and board. A few years later, Maureen met Jim Ferguson while working in the same office building in Washington, D.C.. The two married soon after and Maureen spent the next two decades creating a new life for herself with her husband and 5 children in Potomac, MD. When the children were school age, Maureen found time to volunteer - painting the residents nails at nursing homes, attending bible study, and in later years, serving tea at Strathmore Hall, greeting members at 4th Presbyterian Church, working the information desk at the National Gallery of Art, and acting as a docent for various tours at the Smithsonian and at the National History Museum. She was fascinated with Native American culture and their way of life.
Maureen was known for her genuine kindness, her big beautiful smile and her endearing English accent that was always delivering an encouraging phrase. She mastered the art of being “Momo” - the wonderful grandma to all her grandchildren. She had a beautiful relationship with her grandchildren and they all loved her dearly. Maureen was also an animal lover at her core and was known to say that when she died she wanted to “go to the room where all the dogs go.”
Maureen was preceded in her death by her eldest son, Ian, and is survived by her children, Suzanne Ferguson, Tony Ferguson, Kathy Bent, Joe (Cristina) Ferguson, and daughter-in-law Lindsey Ferguson (Ian), and grandchildren Ashleigh (Ryan), Phoebe, Samantha, Henry, Brady, Kyle, Stevie and Brooks, and her two great granddaughters Piper and Lainey. She also leaves behind a plethora of friends who will sadly miss her. While our hearts are heavy that Maureen is no longer with us, we take great comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her son Ian and all of her favorite furry friends.
Memorial Service will be held at 4th Presbyterian Church on River Road on Saturday, January 31st, 2026 at 10 AM with reception held afterwards for family and friends.
