

Mavis affectionately known as Emme or Aunt Gem was born in Kingston, Jamaica on April 13th, 1932 to parents Ferdinand and Iscilda Simpson.
She attended St. George’s Girl School and then moved on to Excelsior High School where she graduated. Upon Graduation, she met and fell in love with Melvin George Douglas. Their union produced three children: Noel, Cheryl and Derrick.
A caring and loving mother devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In 1983, Mavis migrated to the United States, first settling in Queens, New York and then moving to Germantown, Maryland. She became a member of Mother Seton Catholic Church and remained a member until her passing.
Emme was known for her warmth, kindness and her generosity and always made us feel loved. She would make any sacrifice for her children and loved ones.
Emme will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Sisters Lynette and Shirley, Nieces and Nephews.
God has taken his most precious flower, our Mom. Grant her Eternal Rest.
We miss her tremendously and always have a reason to smile.
Thank you for everything you have done for us, and being the greatest Mom, we could have ever asked for.

A funeral service will be held at DeVol Funeral Home, Gaithersburg, MD on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 11:00AM. Due to the pandemic, services will be private, but the family welcomes you to join online on zoom.
